VGC open team sheet: what goes on it

In Pokemon VGC the open team sheet lets both players read each other’s six Pokemon before the first battle. The Play! Pokemon VGC Tournament Handbook, last revised May 21, 2026, says the 2026 season uses an open team list and that everything on the list is shown to the opponent except the stats. For each Pokemon it asks for the species including forms, the Ability, the held item, all known moves, the Tera Type for competitions in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, all stats and the stat alignment. It also asks for your name, in-game trainer name, Player ID and date of birth.

The handbook lists the stat alignment, which is the nature, and lets the opponent see it, so the nature is on by default. It asks for the Tera Type only for competitions played in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet; the 2026 season is moving to Pokemon Champions. Switch Tera Type on if your event is played in Scarlet or Violet. Level is also a switch. The generator does not know which rules your organizer applies, so read the event page.

Two details matter in practice. A form that changes battle stats must be named, so write Urshifu-Rapid-Strike rather than only Urshifu; the Showdown export already does. And in standard VGC rules no two Pokemon may hold the same item. The tool does not enforce it, but you can spot a repeat in the item column.

What the two sheets contain

The open sheet is the opponent copy: number, species, held item, Ability and moves, plus the nature by default and the Tera Type or level if you switch them on. The full sheet is your own copy. It adds the nickname, shiny mark, level, nature, EVs and IVs, so you can compare it with your game before the event.

Pokemon team sheet PDF: print or save

Press Print open sheet. In the print window pick your printer for a paper copy, or choose Save as PDF as the destination for a Pokemon team sheet PDF. Print full sheet does the same for your own copy. Some events want two paper copies, one for the judges and one for the opponent. To paste the list into a chat instead, use Copy open sheet text: one numbered line per Pokemon. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Open team sheet template: print a blank one

Clear the text box and the sheets become a blank template with six rows. Add your details if you want, press Print open sheet and write the team by hand, using the game’s spelling and full form names. The layout is our own: one table with a row per Pokemon and a column per field. It does not copy another site or any official form. If your event hands out its own template, use theirs.

Showdown export format: what the reader understands

Pokemon Showdown’s team builder exports each Pokemon as a few lines of plain text. The first line holds the species and, after an at sign, the held item. A nickname goes before the species, which is then written in brackets, and a gender mark of M or F can follow. The next lines hold Ability, Level, Shiny, Tera Type, EVs, nature, IVs and then the moves, one per line with a leading dash. A blank line separates Pokemon.

EVs and IVsEVs: 236 HP / 4 Def / 236 SpD / 28 SpeFull sheet only

The reader is forgiving. It ignores trailing spaces, Windows line endings and extra blank lines, skips a folder header, and reports problems in the status line instead of failing: more than four moves, an EV above 252, more than 510 EVs, a Pokemon without an Ability line, or more than six Pokemon. It never changes your text. It does not look anything up, does not check legality and does not calculate stats. If you also play Genshin Impact, our Genshin Impact team randomizer is another team tool here.

How we checked the tool

The parser is a separate module with automated tests for nicknames, gender, items, Ability, Tera Type, EVs, IVs, nature, four moves, several Pokemon, blank lines and Windows line endings. The sample team is only an example of the format. Check your event’s banned list before you copy any set.

Quick answers

What is an open team sheet in VGC?

An open team sheet, also called an open team list, is a page that lists your six Pokemon with their held items, Abilities and moves, plus whatever else the season’s rules add (the 2026 handbook adds the stat alignment, that is the nature, and the Tera Type for events played in Scarlet and Violet), and that your opponent can read before the game. Your opponent sees the same information you see about theirs. Each season’s rules decide the exact fields, so check your event before you submit.

Does it include EVs and nature?

The full sheet includes both. The open sheet leaves EVs out and shows the nature by default. The Play! Pokemon handbook (last revision May 21, 2026) lists stats and a “stat alignment” (the nature) on the team list and lets the opponent see everything except the stats, so the nature stays on unless your event says otherwise.

How do I save the sheet as a PDF?

Press Print open sheet, then choose Save as PDF as the destination in your browser’s print window. The print layout leaves only the sheet.

Is my team uploaded anywhere?

No. The text you paste and the player fields stay in your browser. The page has no sign-in and no upload, and saves nothing.

Is this an official Play! Pokemon form?

No. This is an unofficial fan tool. It is not made by or connected to The Pokemon Company, Nintendo, Game Freak or Pokemon Showdown, and it uses no official artwork. Some events require their own online form, so use this to prepare, and to print a paper copy when allowed.

Where this comes from

The handbook was opened once and the team list section was read. It lists the Tera Type only for competitions in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, which is why it is a switch here. This page is an unofficial fan tool and is not affiliated with The Pokemon Company, Nintendo, Game Freak or Pokemon Showdown.
